Extension to a house in Wotton-under-Edge
We have been working with PN Architecture on a house extension in Wotton-under-Edge. This involved removing most of the ground floor walls of the kitchen and supporting the first floor on new steel beams and columns.

Bouncy floors and notched joists
Bouncy floors can be a problem in older houses. Over the lifetime of a building, the services such as plumbing and electrics can be replaced a number of times. If the positioning of notches and holes is not controlled then you can end up with quite bouncy floors, as was the case with this one.
These notches (top and bottom of the joist) were at the mid span. This had significantly reduced the load capacity and led to all the furniture wobbling when you walked through the room.
Raising the roof with timber and plywood trusses
Extensive alterations are being carried out to this bungalow in Stroud by removing the original roof and forming a new roof that will allow additional rooms. Due to the configuration of stairs and windows, there was no room for standard attic trusses so all of the new trusses are formed on site with timber and plywood glued and screwed together.

Alterations to a house in Stroud
Working with Jagged Edge Design we have been carrying out the structural design, with alterations to a bungalow, removing the roof and adding a new first floor. The new first floor structure is in timber frame to reduce the additional weight. The works were being carried out by Inspired Build.

Extensive alterations to a property
We have designed extensive alterations to this property in Somerford Keynes, working with Corinium Architectural Services. Internally, the property was reorganised, opening the spaces by removing a number of internal walls. The garages were incorporated to form additional rooms and an extension was added to the rear.
